PH Artichoke

The PH Artichoke Glass by Poul Henningsen was launched in 2008. The origins of the glass version date back to 1927-1931, when Poul Henningsen developed the PH Septima glass lamp - a suspension lamp with seven glass shades that Louis Poulsen manufactured until 1940, when it was discontinued due to a lack of raw materials during the war. When Poul Henningsen was asked to develop a light fixture for the Langelinie Pavillonen restaurant in 1958, he was able to complete the project in three months, as the PH Artichoke Glass was based on the Septima ideas. Septima consisted of seven clear glass shades with six sandblasted areas. In PH Artichoke, the shades were grouped into "palisades," as Poul Henningsen called them, and the light was copper. PH Artichoke Glass, which is made of handmade sandblasted glass, is closer to Septima in its expression. The light is diffused through the leaves, making it soft and comfortable. Whether the light is on or off, the leaves have a transparent ice look, adding elegance and lightness to the room.

The luminaire provides glare-free lighting. The 72 leaves are precisely arranged in twelve rows of six, all different. They illuminate the luminaire and form a uniquely designed diffused light. Reflections from the light source are diffused by the sandblasted lower surfaces and projected decoratively onto the upper surfaces, giving the luminaire a unique appearance. The treatment of the glass surface eliminates any risk of direct glare. The energy-saving LED version provides excellent light quality.
