Belgian Interior architect and designer Christophe Gevers was born in Antwerp in 1928 and died in Ohain in 2007.
In the 60s and 70s he build an intriguing body of work from which we find little information today. Little known to the general public, Christophe Gevers can be counted among the leading interior designers of the postwar period.
He designed the interiors of a wide range of restaurants and brasseries in Brussels (including a branch of the fast food chain Quick in 1984), designed several bank buildings and gave shape to various furniture, lighting fixtures, some of which are still in production today by Quattro Benelux and Axis 71. He started his own company Gevers Design and was thirty-three years a teacher at La Cambre in the Department of decor and furnishings.
Thanks to a retrospective of Christophe Gevers oeuvre in 2008, he gained a new status in Belgium.
His pieces are now desired and sought-after, and he enjoys the success he deserves…

Preben Juhl Fabricius (1931-1984) (left) and Jørgen Kastholm (1931-2007) (right) were driven by a mutual mission to make form a pure derivative of function. Both were architects and graduated from the Danish School of Interior Design, where they studied under Finn Juhl and subsequently with Arne Jacobsen. Although they partnered for less than a decade, creating only a handful of designs, Fabricius & Kastholm left a legacy of work honoured in museums around the world — from the Museu de Arte in São Paulo to MoMA in New York and the Musée d`Art Moderne in Paris.
While Fabricius was trained as a cabinetmaker and Kastholm as a blacksmith, this balance of perspectives helped define a new kind of luxury, adding an elegant facet to the prevailing functionalism of Danish Modern. Sleek, elongated shapes, streamlined symmetry and a modern mix of materials characterised pieces commissioned for international airports, penthouse apartments, high-profile lifestyle magazines and even early James Bond films.
The P376 pendant lamp is a perfect example of Fabricius & Kastholm's subtle architectural slant on design. Originally conceived in 1963, five concentric shades create gradations of curves towards the middle of the lamp to emit a soft, diffused light. The discrete placement of the shades and the silky aluminium finish culminate in a cohesive expression that is both iconic and enthralling.

Italian designer Francesca Smiraglia lives and works in Milan and southern Italy. Born in 1983, she graduated in 2008 in Industrial Design at the Politecnico di Milano with a specialization in product and lighting design. She is always constantly looking for ways to improve her knowledge and develop new methodologies of « design thinking »: her training begins with product development of furniture and lighting fixtures and then she focus her job on lighting design to achieve greater awareness of light. She currently works as lighting designer, mainly for Interior design, retail and hospitality industries and also as a product designer in particular thinking of products that explore the conceptual and anthropolo-gical sphere, the relationship between human and environment, considering formal aesthetics of the products focused on the interaction with them and their functionality.

Hvidt & Mølgaard
Peter Hvidt (1916-1986) and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen (1907-1993) were pioneers of Danish mid-century design and the founders of Copenhagen-based firm Hvidt & Mølgaard.
Renowned for the simplicity of their works, the duo established a simple and precise aesthetic designing countless pieces of furniture over the years, many of which became icons of the era. The success of the AX chair (crafted in 1950) was a seminal moment for the pair. Not only did its smooth, tightly controlled silhouette secure their stance as leaders of Danish modernism, but the use of laminated wood allowed the chair to be produced on a mass scale and exported internationally. This forward-thinking approach to industrialized production paved the way for a new movement that drew upon classical craftsmanship techniques to make affordable, beautifully crafted home furnishings.
Both Hvidt and Mølgaard-Nielsen boasted superior technical skills. Mølgaard-Nielsen studied furniture design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts under the tutelage of Kaare Klint, while Hvidt gained knowledge of traditional craftsmanship during his time studying cabinetry at the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen. Today, their work can be found exhibited at MoMA, Melbourne’s National Gallery, and Copenhagen’s Design Museum.

“Our eyes are made to see forms in light; light and shade reveal these forms; cubes, cones, spheres, cylinders or pyramids are the great primary forms which light reveals to advantage; the image of these is distinct and tangible within us without ambiguity. It is for this reason that these are beautiful forms, the most beautiful forms”.

Among the giants of Danish design, Verner Panton (1926-1998) established a unique reputation for his exuberant originality and tireless experimentation. Panton created lamps, furniture and textiles – and was also a sought-after interior designer. Although he was at the forefront of mid-century Danish Modern, Panton’s contribution was anything but mainstream. He enthusiastically embraced new materials, he splashed with a bold colour palette, and he playfully imbued many of his sculptural creations with a strong graphical expression – without ever compromising on quality or workmanship. Panton’s iconic designs have emerged as contemporary design classics – as strikingly inventive now as they were 50 years ago.

Danish designer Øivind Slaatto holds a master's degree from the Danish School of Design. Before that he studied music at the Royal Academy of Music. His love of music and nature is reflected in his approach to the design process. Although he is best known for the poetic character of his design solutions, he also seeks qualities such as rationality, logic and harmony in his creations.
Øivind Slaatto wants his designs to be seen in a simple and light way, like playing a piece of music. His work covers areas as diverse as audio speakers, cars, furniture and suspensions. But his great passion is designing lighting solutions. His natural affinity for light leads him to constantly improve the way we perceive light and the mood it creates.
